Miraculous What?

A couple of weeks ago I was asked to make a cake for my cousin.  It has been a long time, but for special birthdays I do personalized cakes for close friends and family members.

For this cake, the only request was for something "Miraculous Ladybug".  Well, I was not familiar with this cartoon, but with the help of Google, I came up with this design for a cake topper.  I am still learning, but this is an easy and creative way to make customize a cake for the occasion and recipient.

I created a similar logo on Cricut and instead of using the "Ladybug" portion of the logo and replaced it with the birthday girl's name in a similar font found on DaFont.com.   I also used the Design Space offset feature for several elements (a super cool new tool!).  I added some masks and a 16 for her birthday.  I then cut the design out of several different layers of cardstock and assembled it, popping out several features to make it more fun. I used a kebob stick covered with a matching straw to put this topper in the upper level of the cake.

I was in a hurry to deliver the cake on time and did not get the photos that I wish I had taken.  Number one rule of cake delivery- take pictures before leaving for the party location!  (I know better than to take a picture in light like this too!), but here is the finished product.

You will see that I made keys (she IS turning 16!), nail polish, a softball (she is a great ball player!) and flowers in her school colors.  This is my first custom cake since before the pandemic, so I was a little out of practice. Looking back there are definitely some things that I would change and practice on, but all in all, not a bad try after all this time!

If you look at the left behind the cake was a tower of pudding cups.  I think that those were the hit of the party! Lesson learned!

To the right of the top photo you can just see the edge of a Starbucks cup.  We are big Starbucks fans and I had to pay tribute!  I got a small cup from them and filled it with cake, topped it with frosting and some actual Starbucks chocolate shavings.  It was a hit!

I enjoyed making the cake, spending time on a creative project and most importantly getting back together with friends and family after so long.  I wish that the cake would have been up to my pre-pandemic standards, but the ultimately it is the love, creativity and learning (and re-learning!) that went into the cake that I should remember.

I hope that you too are enjoying a life renewed these days and discovering and rediscovering amazing things.

Thank you for stopping by today!

~Cynthia
