Crafting a Parisian Tablescape

Like most of the world, I have become obsessed with the Olympics. The television has been on almost non-stop since the Opening Ceremony was televised live on Friday afternoon.  In addition to the amazing athletes, the city of Paris has been a beautiful and interesting character in the events. It is definitely on my bucket list of places to travel.

Until I can visit the real Eiffel Tower, I decided to make my own, with the help of a cut from SVG Cuts and my trusty Cricut.

And since Paris is known as “The City of Lights”, I had to add those as well. I need to work on my lighting skills, but I simply used a string of battery operated lights I got from the dollar store. If I had thought about it before I built it, I would have made better provisions and maybe made the tower with the lights inside the structure.

And then I had to decide what to do with this 30 inch paper tower- and the first thing that came to mind was a tablescape. What a fun centerpiece it would make during the Olympics!

When in Paris, you must do as the Parisians do, so there must be wine! And special wineglasses to put it in!  These were also made with my Cricut.  The Eiffel Tower cut comes straight from Design Space and the Paris letters are the Belgrad font from DaFonts- the closest thing I could find to the official Olympic font. The letters and tower on the glasses are adhesive vinyl.

Since I would be using this centerpiece during the Olympics, I decided to add the Olympic rings in roughly the same place that they can be seen on the real Eiffel Tower.  These are downloaded from the internet and printed on card stock. Since I want to be able to display the tower later, perhaps without the rings, I attached them with foam mounting tape which will come off fairly easily and without damage.  I placed the tower on a canvas painted gold to match and placed an Olympic rings sticker on it (I can’t find any pictures of what is actually below the Eiffel Tower “in real life”).

Since it is just my husband and me at the house this week, I decided to create a table for two in our kitchen.

I have had the chargers forever. The gold rimmed plates were on clearance at Home Goods for two dollars each.  I wish I had been able to buy more than two, but they are perfect for my husband and I- a little touch of everyday elegance.  The gold utensils are from Pier One (dearly missed!) and are a staple on my table.

As the kids say, “I am obsessed” with these napkin bows!  I used plain white tea towels and threaded them through my gold napkin rings.

I placed a napkin in this glass so you can see the Paris decoration on the wine glasses.  I really enjoy using inexpensive glasses of all types to decorate for different occasions like this.

As the light shifts you can just start to see the lights on my window.  In my family believes that “to celebrate, you must illuminate”, which means we will light up anything and everything for any reason (and sometimes for no reason)!

Now I need to come up with a Parisian themed menu- breads and cheeses and wine- all of my favorite things!

This is not the first Paris tablescape I have done.  Years ago, when I first started my blog I put together this table and then there was this party . It is fun to go back and look at the fun things we did in the past.  I wish I still had those plates!

I will be linking this post to the Between Naps on the Porch Tablescape Thursday.   Check out what other creative tablescapers are putting together this week.

Thanks for stopping by today!
