A Birthday Challenge

This week's Fantabulous Cricut Challenge comes just in time.  The theme is "Birthdays" and I just counted five birthdays, just in the family, over the next three weeks.  It is definitely time to get out the Cricut and get crafting!

The great thing about Cricut these days is that if you do not feel inspired (as I was not this afternoon), there are plenty of ideas to get you started.  I had procrastinated in getting my project done (so much for my plan of not waiting until the last minute!) and had spent the afternoon grading papers. That pretty much killed any creative spirit I might have had today! I sketched out a couple of designs, but I really wasn't thrilled about any of them so I went "shopping" in Design Space.  I found this cute little pop-up Happy Birthday card! It starts out as a simple little unassuming card.

It has a cute little scalloped edge that I decorated with rick-rack.  And then, when you open it, you get a super cute pop-up surprise!

I added some rick-rack and a little bling to the inside.

The cut even comes with an envelope.  I cut my project at approximately 10" x 9".

The card super versatile.  I made a more colorful version as well.

I love the "Eat Cake" printed at the bottom. You can't see it very well because of the polka dots.

I'm still learning about the writing "skill" that the new Cricuts have.

Since this card will probably go to a boy, I had to resist using my glitter blue washi tape and blue "gemstones"!

Another thing that I really appreciate about using my Cricut is the generosity of Cricut Crafters.  Without their tutorials, I don't think I could do anything with my Cricut!  A tutorial by Stacy Williams found here really helped me with the folds.

Since this is such a busy birthday month, I imagine I will be making a few more of these.  I look forward to playing with different papers, some bling and maybe some cute stamps. So many possibilities!

So here is the information about this week's Fantabulous Cricut Challenge.

To qualify for the prize, be sure to use at least 1 Cricut cut on your project and if it's not obvious, let us know what cartridge you used. If you use a Cricut Explore machine, at least one cut must be from the Cricut catalog of images.

If it isn't a card, you will get two entries into the drawing!

Hop on over to the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge blog (here) to see what the talented crafters have come up with this week or maybe to post a project of your own!

  1. Those are great cards. I've been hesitant to make those pop up cards, I find them intimidating for some reason. Yours are super cute! Blessings, Jamie FCCB DT
