When Good Crafts Go Bad!

When I last wrote I promised that I would share more of my projects.  I had a plan for a really cute Fourth of July tablescape that I was so excited about.

I have to admit that I love some of the Independence Day tables that I have set in the past.

From a simple table in my backyard.  How beautiful are those hydrangeas!?!

To a picnic with a water view. Beautiful even on a cloudy day.

Even paper plates can still set a cute table when dining al fresco. I even folded some fancy napkins for this one.

It has been so long since I posted a nice tablescape. So I thought about what I wanted to do and got crafting.

I had seen patriotic platters on Pinterest and in the stores and as I typically do, I told myself that I could make them myself.  I planned two chargers with red and white stripes and two blue chargers with white stars.  They would be perfect with white plates, my patriotic bowls, red utensils, and of course, my Uncle Sam centerpiece from my last post!

I started with gold plastic chargers from the dollar store.

I put some Gesso on them to help the paint adhere.

And began to paint.

I taped off the stripes for the red paint.

And this happened when I pulled off the painter's tape.

Arrrrgh! Despite my best efforts to get the paint to adhere, I failed to get the striped chargers painted.  After several coats of paint, my patience was failing as well!

But then, I looked at my blue chargers (I had not added the stars yet) and thought about what else was in my cabinet and came up with this.

Not a great picture (my art skills seem to be lacking in all areas today!), but the charger looks perfect with my seashell dinner plates and my blue heron salad plates.  So, stay tuned!  I am painting (or should I say re-painting!) the other chargers blue and will have a really cute sea themed tablescape posted before too long!

Now, I hope to post a recipe or two before the Fourth so stay tuned!

Thanks for stopping by today!
