ARRGH! (Or It's Time to Decorate for Halloween!)

I have lived most of my life in an area that is rich with pirate lore- both real and imagined. Pirates sailed the seas not too far from my home and I grew up hearing their stories and visiting some of the places that they supposedly gathered and added to their interesting histories. To a young imaginative child, it was an adventurous and exciting life and movies just reinforced the romance.  (Although you do NOT want to hear what happened to Blackbeard about a mile from my first law office!) Our football teams are Pirates, our tourist attractions boast of links to them and our localities play hosts to festivals in their honor (and we have a dog named Pirate in the family!).

As an adult, I understand that what the real life of a pirate was like.  I also know that pirates still exist (and that they are definitely not Jack Sparrow!), but the fascination with pirate life as imagined still exists. And that is why it is my Halloween decorating theme this year.

Meet Skelly.  He began visiting my sunporch last year around Halloween.  This year he showed up as a pirate.

The porch has turned into a pirate hangout.

The rest of us are not welcome.

The Pirate Lair includes some décor and a handy compass.  Like Jack Sparrow's it does not work (or does it?)  Skelly understands the true treasures in life include chocolate bars.

He added a garland for a festive touch.  Did you know that red on a pirate flag means "No Quarter" is given.  You do not want to meet a pirate who gives no quarter!

If you look closely you can see an alligator hoping someone will walk the plank!

Skelly loves bling and his handy spyglass.

And he may have a drinking problem...

Skelly also sets a beautiful table for his pirate friends.  I will share that tablescape next week. I hope that you will come back again!

Thanks for stopping by!
