Happy National Hot Dog Day!

It's National Hot Dog Day!

Now, you might be thinking to yourself "Didn't I hear that National Hot Dog Day was last week?"  Well, you would be right.  Apparently there are two National Hot Dog Days this year. Usually, the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council holds its annual Hot Dog Lunch on July 23rd every year.  According to Forbes, for 2016 they changed the date of National Hot Dog Day to July 14.  There are still apparently some events and promotions scheduled for today.

Regardless of which day is "official" (do we really need an official holiday to enjoy a national favorite?), July has been declared National Hot Dog month by the NHDSC so I thought that I would share a hot dog cake that I made for my cousin on her birthday a couple of years ago.

For her family birthday party her parents planned a big cookout.  This cake was designed to go with the theme and her favorite cookout food.

The hot dog, bun, napkin and ketchup container are all made of fondant.  Very simple shapes but the color was the tricky part. (What color is a hot dog any way?) The label on the ketchup was written with edible markers. I placed the hot paper container that you would get in a hot dog shop or use during a picnic.  The ketchup and mustard were gel frosting. The cake is chocolate with chocolate frosting.  Hmmm, I'm getting hungry!

I hope that you get a chance to enjoy your favorites this weekend!

Thanks for stopping by today!
