A Few of My Favorite Things!
Wow! I can't believe that it has been so long since my last post! My apologies- the holidays and the end of the semester come together in a perfect storm and for some reason, it takes me by surprise every year!
To get me through this hectic season I have gathered together a few of my favorite things. This list, which I began last year, is inspired by Oprah's Favorite Things, but is again a little more practical and affordable than her's. Nonetheless it includes some pretty cool things that make me happy and hopefully will bring a little joy to your life as well.
My favorite new music this year comes from some old favorites.
Garth Brooks recorded his new c.d. (I still want to call them albums!), Christmas Together, with his wife Trisha Yearwood. It is a nice blend of old standards and fun new songs. The beautiful "What I am Thankful For" with James Taylor, will bring a tear to your eye and remind you what this season is really about. Garth Brooks' music is not on iTunes, but you can find it in c.d. form in your local music store.
My other new favorite is Jimmy Buffet's Tis the SeaSon. A different take on holiday music, this c.d. is perfect for that laid back Christmas party or tree-trimming- a must for any ParrotHead. Santa Stole Thanksgiving pretty much tells the story of the season these days!
I downloaded my favorites from iTunes and it is part of my Christmas Favorites Playlist.
For some reason I have been in a flamingo phase over the last few months and I knew when I saw this wrapping paper at Target that somebody was going to get a gift or two wrapped in this super cute paper!
You can even get some super cute gift tags to go with it!
I found this cute guy at Walmart!
I am a big Tervis cup fan. If you are not familiar with them, these cups are made in America and can be used to keep drinks hot or cold for a long period of time. There is no condensation on the outside to make those destructive circles on the surface of your table. The cups come in everything from sippy cups to tumblers to wine glasses. You can get them with the emblem of your favorite sports team, cartoon character or with holiday decor. You can choose your favorite color and style spill-proof lid to go with it. My brother gave me this one, along with one with a Thanksgiving Snoopy design. They will be my holiday go-to-cups for years to come! You can find them online at www.tervis.com.
This year marks the 50th Anniversary of one of our favorite Christmas specials, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". When I found this T-shirt at Old Navy, I knew that I had to add it to my holiday T collection. (You can also get a Grinch Tervis!)
Once upon a time I had the time to decorate another Christmas tree in my house, one with a coastal theme. I found this ornament at a local Christmas shop and knew that it would be perfect on that tree and would maybe inspire me to put it up again this year. Well, the jury is still out on that, but I still love this sandpiper. When I am at the beach I love to watch them dart back and forth along the shoreline and this ornament brings back memories of those sunny (and warm!) days.
If you are like my mom, my daughters and me you love "Fixer Upper" on HGTV. We have been known to sit for hours and watch marathons or even catch it on Netflix. I was so excited to see this new magazine put out by Chip and Joanna (as we call them!). Published on nice quality paper, "The Magnolia Journal" is a beautiful magazine full of lovely photographs, delicious looking recipes (haven't tried one yet, but I have my eye on that Macaroni and Cheese recipe!) and of course design ideas. This magazine is one that all three generations of women in my family can enjoy.
If you are looking for a good read this holiday, pick up The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna. It's a nice story about how they got their start, again enjoyed by all three generations in our family.
Some of my favorites from last year are still on my list for 2016. The Hallmark Channel has been on almost 24/7 since the beginning of November. There is still no politics or bad new and always a happy ending! Starbucks Iced Peppermint Mocha, both at the store and in my refrigerator is a special treat throughout every Christmas season. This year I even discovered that Starbucks has a Peppermint Mocha Frappacino! Yum! The Light Keeper Pro Light Keeper is still reviving seemingly dead light strings and saving us time and frustration!
I should probably get back to grading papers and writing those semester-end reports! I think I will grab a quick cup of Peppermint Mocha, switch on my Garth Brooks Christmas c.d. and get back to it!
Thanks for stopping by today!
