Christmas in July- Anything Goes!
I enjoy finding new ways to use my Cricut. This week, while planning a Christmas in July mini-quilt, I had a little problem with the math. (This is not new- math is not my forte'!) So, while working on a different project, I realized that I could get my Cricut to do the pattern, and the math, for me.
I could play around with different pattern sizes, move the blocks around, change their color and even get the machine to cut for me! I figured out how big I wanted the quilt to be and then how many and how big the blocks should be.
I didn't use the Cricut to cut the blocks, but I did use it for the flip-flops. Ironing "Heat n Bond Lite" (the one in the purple bag) to the back of the fabric, I put the flip flop fabric on the mat and cut away.
The flip-flops came from the "Life's a Beach" cartridge. If you have ever cut these sandals, you know that there are extra cuts to help with placement of the straps. This is a problem when cutting the fabric. On one quilt I was able to place the straps over the cuts, but after that I used the machine to cut a pattern and cut the fabric from that. There is probably a way to avoid those cuts on the machine, but I haven't figured that out yet.
I also made a little gift tag for the quilt which is actually designed to be a "mug rug", a mini quilt used to place a mug and perhaps a snack on. I have a couple of these started, and a few more planned for Christmas gifts. When I make these tags for the holidays, I will get a red marker for the greeting, something I would not have thought about if I had not gotten a head start. I guess I should start a list of projects and materials! The good thing about Christmas in July is that it gives you a starting point for Christmas crafting and shopping, but also gives you an opportunity to work on new skills and materials.
This little project is just in time for this week's Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog Challenge:
