The Best Hot Chocolate for the Worst Weather!

After a brief 70 degree respite, the bitterly cold winter continues here on the east coast.  BRRRR! It is cold!  And what is better to warm up on a freezing winter afternoon than Hot Chocolate!

Long ago my daughters and I discovered the "World's Best" Hot Cocoa recipe originally published in Family Fun magazine. Over the years we enjoyed it on snow days and packaged it with cute mugs and tons of marshmallows for teacher's gifts at Christmas and for winter party favors.  The recipe page has gotten tattered and torn from seasons of use and I realized on our last snow day that I haven't yet shared it with you.

We've changed the recipe a little over the years.  Here is our latest version.

World's Best Hot Chocolate Recipe

2 cups nonfat dry milk powder, sifted
3/4 sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup MINI semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup powdered nondairy creamer (non-flavored), sifted

Stir all of the ingredients in a medium-sized mixing bowl.  Whisk until blended.  Store in a tightly sealed container until ready to use.

To enjoy, spoon 3 or 4 tablespoons of the mix (depending on the size of the mug) into boiling water.

To gift, measure into a canning jar, mug or treat bag.  Add marshmallows, peppermint sticks (never out of season at my house!) and more mini-chocolate chips as desired.  Include instructions for serving on a cute tag.

Check back next week to see how I am gifting the mix this winter!

Thank you for stopping by this week!  Stay warm!
