Because I Really Needed a New Hobby!
So, I have a rubber stamp collection from years ago when I thought I would give it a try. The old stamps (and some of the new!) are big and clunky on wood backing. They took up a lot of space and I simply didn't have the time then to continue.
A couple of years ago I won a gift card to a company that marketed acrylic stamps. Much better- they peel and stick on to an acrylic block. Storage is easier without all of the wood backs and somehow they seem more simple with a more clean image. I still didn't use them much, but I recently found some really cute stamps that would make sweet cards for people I love, so I ordered them. And then I found some more. And then I discovered die cuts. And a new hobby (read: more time, more money, more fun!) began. Here are a few of my recent creations.
I made this card for friends who had hosted us at a beach house in the Outer Banks. I colored the lighthouse to look like the Cape Hatteras light that we visited that week. The image stamps came from the Lawn Fawn, "Life is Good" set. The "Thanks" stamp is from years ago, one of those old wood block stamps that I have no idea the origin of. The background paper is embossed with a wave pattern.
The thing that I like about rubber stamping is that it can be what you want it to be. It does not take a big, expensive machine (but I still love my Cricut!) or a lot of expensive materials if you do not want it to. You do not need to draw well to create beautiful images. The end product can be as fancy or as simple as you choose.
Right now I am focusing on simple! The images on this card were also stamped from Lawn Fawn stamps. This time from the "Meow you Doin'" set. The back is embossed in a cat paw pattern. Don't you just love that little mouse in the corner?
This Patriotic card was made from the stamp set that started my recent interest in the craft. The stamps came from Pretty Cute Stamps, the "Little Eagle" set. There is a lot of glitter on these cards (of course!). The frame is made from glitter paper and the hat and sparklers have blue Stickles on them. The background was embossed with a star pattern. I made several of these for the holiday.
I mentioned embossing on each of these cards. It is actually a cool process. There is a plastic folder with an image on it. You place the paper in the folder and roll it through an inexpensive little machine. Voila! You have the image embossed on your paper. You can also use the embossing machine to cut your image with die cuts.
So, that's what I have been playing with lately. I have a few more sets that I am enjoying and I just saw a preview of some super cute fall images. More time in the craft room! Yay!
Don't worry! I haven't forgotten my other hobbies! On Monday I will be sharing a Beach themed Cricut project and maybe a little later sharing a Beach themed table-scape. I hope that you will come back next week!
(And no, I do not have any monetary or other interest in any of the companies I mentioned!)
Thanks for stopping by today!
