Red, White and Blue Candy Cookies!

What better treat on Independence Day than Red, White and Blue M&M candy cookies!

I found the "official" recipe on the M&M's website which links to their Facebook page.  The recipe is made with "Harvest Blend" milk chocolate M&Ms and it is called "Red's Amazing M&M's Brand Cookies", but it doesn't matter the color, an M&M is a delicious M&M! (And no, I have no commercial or pecuniary interest in M&M, related products or parent company!)  I can imagine them made at Christmas with red and green candies, and at Valentine's Day with pink.  I think I will try them with the Pumpkin Spice version in the fall! Or dark chocolate! Yum! The possibilities are endless!

My version is slightly different, mainly in the process, from the original.  I add my suggestions for easier baking.

 Awesome M&M Brand Cookies

Ingredient List:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened
2/3 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/4 cup baking SODA
1/4 tsp salt
1 10 oz package M&M's

Directions:
  1. With an electric mixer, cream butter and sugars until well blended.  Add egg and vanilla.  Stir until combined.
  2. Sift flour, and mix with baking soda and salt in a separate bowl.  SLOWLY add in thirds to the butter and sugar mixture and stir.
  3. Gently fold the candy into the mixture until just combined.
  4.  The original recipe calls for chilling the dough for an hour or overnight.  I put mine in the refrigerator for about three hours. I found it a bit stiff and will probably omit this step next time.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  6. Using a small scoop place dough on a parchment covered cookie sheet.  (You can also drop dough by rounded tablespoons if you do not have a scoop.) Make sure that the cookies are about two inches apart.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Remove from oven and rest on cookie sheet for about one minute.  Remove to cooling rack to completely cool.
  8. Try to keep from eating them all in one sitting!

I hope that you have a Safe and Happy Fourth of July filled with lots of your favorite treats!

Thanks for stopping by today!
