Gardenia Scent in the Shower!
If you have followed me for a while you know that I love to make my own bath products. From Peppermint bath bombs, shower scrub and soap (here, here and here) to pumpkin spice soap and shower scrub (here and here), honey scented soap (here) and even a little adventure in soap making with home-grown lavender (here).
As I mentioned in my last post, I wanted to to bring the scent of my favorite flower into the bath, so I decided to make some Gardenia scented scrub.
I used unrefined coconut oil because that is what was in my pantry, but it does leave a coconut-y smell. It takes more essential oil than I think I would have used with the refined, but I like the little bit of coconut scent that lingers. Anyway, begin with five drops and work up from there recognizing that you are probably going to have to use many more. I also added a little green soap coloring because I felt it needed it. If you are adding color to your soaps, bath bombs or sugar scrubs be sure to use soap coloring (you can get it at your favorite craft store) and not food coloring unless you want to risk the possibility of that color lingering on your skin. I used a little bit of red in my peppermint scrub and that was fine, but I don't like to risk it.
Don't you love the pretty pink bowl? I found it at Target last week (only 79 cents!) and thought is would be a pretty color for this post (and probably others!). I am using it only for photography purposes now. For actual use I use this plastic jar that I found at the dollar store. It keeps the scrub dry in the shower and preserves the scent.
I don't know where the pretty pink scoop came from. (Can you tell what my favorite color is?) It just showed up in my kitchen one day (maybe it belongs to one of my daughters?). Anyway- "finders, keepers"!
I hope that you get some time to relax this week and enjoy your favorite flowers and scents! Please come back to see us next week when we celebrate Flag Day and Father's Day!
Thanks for stopping by today!
